Business advisory
What's it actually worth?
An honest appraisal of your business's value, with the drivers explained and the path to a bigger number mapped.
When you need one
Four moments the number matters.
Planning your exit.
Begin with the end in mind. We start with a conversation, agree the strategic plan and assess possible exit scenarios. From there, we work by design to maximise business value and create options around price, terms and conditions- and possible time line.
A trigger event.
A change in an owner's circumstances may mean they need to sell their equity. Other triggers include a planned buy-in, the sale of a business division or an approach from a buyer.
Succession in the family.
We develop the plan and valuation methodology for a staged buy-in, allowing the business to continue without disruption and providing fairness for all family members, whether they work in the business or not.
Just want to know.
Many owners have never seen a defensible number for their life's work. It changes how you plan everything.
What you get
A business valuation addressing risk and return, with a number you can use and understand.
You receive a written director's appraisal covering the valuation methodology and available options, the maintainable earnings supporting the valuation, and an analysis of risk and return to determine the appropriate multiple. Where relevant, we include comparable evidence and provide either a specific value or a valuation range.
Just as importantly, you receive a driver analysis showing what adds value, what holds the business back, what a buyer will examine during due diligence and, most importantly, what they will pay for.
Where a buyer requires a formal, court-standard valuation, we work alongside an accredited valuer.

Our process
How this works.
Good work follows a process. Here is ours.
The numbers
We assess the current position of the business and its key metrics. This includes understanding its operations, financial performance, risk and return. We normalise the financials, determine maintainable earnings and adjust to a normalised EBITDA position.
The appraisal
Assess and apply the appropriate valuation methodology, incorporating risk and return, and deliver and present the written valuation appraisal.
The path
A practical & commercial approach to arrive at an independent and honest appraisal. If the final valuation is not where you expected or want it to be, we present a business improvement plan designed to move the value, terms and conditions towards the desired position.
Common questions
Questions we get asked.
No. We prepare directors' appraisals for planning, negotiation and buy-ins. Where court-standard valuation is required, for family law or disputes, we work alongside an accredited valuer.
Maintainable earnings, how dependent the business is on you, the quality of the numbers, recurring revenue and transferable relationships. Most of these can be improved, which is why appraisal and improvement pair so well.
Typically a few weeks once we have clean financials. If the financials are not clean, fixing that comes first and improves the number's credibility anyway.
No. The appraisal is only useful if it is honest, and the owners who thank us most are the ones who heard a hard number early enough to change it.
