Accounting & Tax
Something significant happening? Reach out and have a chat with us before you go too far. Always.
CGT events, transactions, restructures and complex tax questions, advised before the signature, when every option is still open.
When to call us
Four moments worth a phone call.
Selling an asset or a business.
The CGT outcome is shaped by structure and timing, ideally decided in advance. Even where the transaction is already under way, there may still be valuable steps we can take.
Restructuring or bringing in partners.
There are a number of tax concessions available. Rollovers and concessions can soften the tax burden if we plan properly and early.
A transaction on the table.
Merger, buy-in or property deal. The tax advice belongs at the beginning. It can still influence the negotiation, but after the transaction is agreed it may be too late.
Money crossing borders.
Drawing on deep international connections, we can advise on cross-border transactions and structures that take account of your wider circumstances, current position and tax residency.
The cost of asking later
The most expensive words in tax: we already signed.
The worst tax bills we see share one history: the transaction happened first and the advice came second. An asset sold from the wrong entity. A restructure that triggered duty nobody priced. A deal where the structure cost the seller real money at settlement. None of these needed to happen. The habit that prevents all of them is simple: when the number is big, ask first.
Our process
How this works.
Good work follows a process. Here is ours.
An early conversation with us
You tell us the transaction and the timing; we scope the advice and quote it.
The advice
Written in plain English, with options clearly set out and the potential dollar savings or impact explained. No jargon.
The final steps
We implement the agreed approach, work with your lawyer on the documentation and handle the compliance that follows. Early conversations and planning help us achieve the best result possible for you.
Common questions
Questions we get asked.
Before anything is signed and ideally before the price is agreed, because structure and timing decisions made early are the ones that change the after-tax outcome.
Yes. Lawyers refer transaction and structuring work to us regularly, and we are comfortable advising alongside an existing accountant on a one-off matter.
A written, plain-English opinion with the options compared in dollars, the risks named, and a recommendation. Not a memo you need a second adviser to translate.
Sometimes there are repair options, and we will tell you honestly what they are. But the earlier you call, the more we can do.
