RETIREMENT & AGED CARE
Planning a parent's aged care, without the rush.
The move into care often comes quickly, and the money questions arrive all at once. We help families work through the costs, the family home and Centrelink, so the decision is made with the full picture.
When a parent needs care, the financial decisions arrive before anyone is ready.
It usually starts with a hospital stay or a fall, and a family can find itself choosing a home and working out how to pay for it in a matter of weeks. The fee rules are complex, and the choices made early can affect a parent's income, their pension and what is eventually left to the family.
At Securinvest, we bring aged care advice, tax and estate planning into one conversation, so the whole picture is considered together and nothing falls through the gaps.
We work with you, your parent and, where it helps, the rest of the family, so everyone understands the plan and the reasons behind it.

What we help with
Clear answers to the questions families ask first.
RAD, daily fee, or a combination.
How the accommodation payment options compare for your parent's cash flow, assets and estate, so the choice is deliberate rather than rushed.
The family home and means testing.
Whether to keep, rent or sell the home, and how each option is treated in the means test and in the fees your parent pays.
Centrelink updates and assessment timing.
Getting the income and assets assessment lodged on time and kept up to date when things change, so fees and pension stay right.
The whole family in the conversation.
One plan, explained to everyone who needs to hear it, with powers of attorney, wills and the estate considered alongside.
OUR PROCESS
Our process.
Advice starts with a proper conversation, not a product.
Discovery, on us.
A proper discovery meeting, not a 15-minute chat: what matters to your parent and your family, where things stand, and whether we can genuinely help. Complimentary.
Your strategy, presented.
We build the strategy and present it with clear fees, so you decide with the full picture in front of you.
Implement and review.
We put the plan to work, then stay with you: portfolio monitoring, reviews, and an adviser who picks up the phone.
Common questions
Questions we get asked.
Ideally before care is needed, but most families come to us once a move is already under way. Either way, an early conversation keeps more options open, and the first one costs nothing.
Not necessarily. Keeping, renting or selling the home each affect fees, the pension and the estate differently, and the right answer depends on the family's situation. We model the options side by side. (General information only.)
A refundable accommodation deposit (RAD) is a lump sum paid to the home. A daily accommodation payment (DAP) covers the same cost as an ongoing daily amount. Many people pay a combination of both, and which suits best depends on cash flow, assets and the estate. (General information only.)
Yes. With your parent's consent, we can meet with siblings and work alongside the family's accountant and solicitor, so everyone is working from the same plan.
